John McDonagh, his wife Natasha and their four small children are lucky to be alive after a fire broke out in their mobile home outside Fermoy during early morning.
The kitchen and living room area were completely gutted by the blaze with extensive smoke damage throughout the caravan.
The fire broke out at around 1am on Friday 15th while the family were asleep, but luckily Natasha woke and raised the alarm, screaming and alerting her family to evacuate their mobile home to safety.
The emergency services were on the scene promptly and got the fire under control.
“The fire brigade said that if we had stayed for even five more minutes it would have been too late,” Natasha told Cork’s 96fm.
Their mobile home has been in the media in recent times, being parked in a picnic area on Cork Road in Fermoy with the family claiming they don’t want to be there and they’ve tried everything to get somewhere else to live.
“We’ve rang everybody we can think of. I just don’t know what we’re going to do. I haven’t slept all night thinking about what could have happened,” said Natasha.
