Debating serious issues such as gambling, the death penalty, international terrorism and single sex schools, is no mean feat, but is one which was embraced by the junior debating team from St Fanahan's College.

The team travelled to St Aloysius College in Cork to take part in the Matheson Junior Debating competition recently. Those on the team were Mark Casey, Chloe Connolly, Marie King, Mark O'Brien, Lucille Walsh and Stella Walsh.

The school were delighted with their performance, as they represented the school with great pride, as they went up against schools from all over Munster.

Matheson debating coordinator, Ms Kenneally was delighted with how well the team performed.

"I'm so proud of them. Once they got over their nerves, the progress they made in those few short hours of competition was tremendous."
