Blackwater Distillery began whiskey distillation at their brand new Ballyduff distillery on Tuesday last.
The new distillery will be one of the few whiskey distilleries in the world to have blockchain technology, meaning customers will be able to find out every piece of production information associated with the specific bottle of whiskey that they buy, by simply scanning the unique symbol on every bottle.
This is the 21st operational Irish Whiskey Distillery in Ireland and the company plan to produce Single Malt and Pot Still whiskey as well as their already popular range of Blackwater Gin.
The company, owned by Peter Mulryan, had been trading out of Cappoquin and due to their success and the high demand for their products, they purchased the former Pat Flynn's hardware shop in Ballyduff Upper and created their state of the art distillery.
The equipment installed in the distillery is innovative and well researched with the three stills having come all the way from Siena in Italy.
Head of the Irish Whiskey Association William Lavelle, congratulated the Blackwater Distillery team led by Creative Director, Peter Mulryan.
"It’s a very exciting time and we look forward to seeing further industry growth, fuelled by the ambition, innovation and hard work of our Irish whiskey producers.”
The Blackwater Distillery in Ballyduff will be open to the general public for tours in early 2019.
