The construction of a new larger Lidl store in Fermoy could be delayed for at least six months following an objection by a member of the public.

Owners of the German supermarket chain had hoped to replace its shop in Fermoy, with a larger one that would include an off-licence and bakery, with parking spaces for 140 cars. 

However, an appeal lodged with An Bord Pleanála against Cork County Council’s approval of the demolition of the existing Lidl store and replacement with a larger, licensed discount foodstore, threatens to put the development on hold until early 2019.
