Colette Quinlan from Glanworth is taking on the ultimate challenge and will be completing a skydive on September 1st.
The jump is in aid of St Mary’s Day Care Centre in Mallow, a cause which is close to Colette’s heart.
Having turned 50 in May, Colette decided that she wanted to make her 50th year the best yet and try things she’s never done before.
She decided that a skydive would be the ultimate challenge and is really looking forward to the experience.
“I just wanted to do something different. I’ve spoken to a few people who’ve done it and they said it’s a fantastic feeling,” Colette told The Avondhu.
The jump will take place in County Offaly and Colette will be bringing some friends and family on the trip up the country for moral support.
“You’re only going around the block once. This is my year and I’m sticking to it. I’m having a ball,” said Colette.
Although the skydive is next on the agenda, Colette has a few more exciting adventures up her sleeve for the remainder of the year with the hopes of going on a cruise being one of them.
As well as getting a chance to experience something new, Colette is delighted to be raising funds for the St Mary’s Day Care Centre in Mallow as some of her own relatives have benefited from the wonderful service they provide for Alzheimers patients and their families.
The focus of the day care centre is the provision of care in an environment where people with dementia feel comfortable and are stimulated.
An important feature of the service is that it provides activities outside the home, giving stimulation and care to the person and a break for the primary carer.
Depending on their wishes and abilities, the centre offers the person with dementia a wide range of activities including reminiscence therapy, music sessions, gentle exercises, arts and crafts and personal care.
Having already surpassed her target of €520, Colette is now aiming to hit over €1,000.
If anyone would like to donate you can give Colette a ring on 086-8193159.
“Every euro makes a difference,” Colette stressed.
