33 year old chef Tommy Fitzgibbon, and his friend, Glanworth GAA man Christopher Quirke, are busy finalising their plans to compete in this year's Barcelona Marathon.
Unchartered territory for both men, they are up for this most formidable of challenges in one of the world's great cultural cities.
At the launch in Fitzgibbon's Bar, Glanworth, the lads revealed that St Patrick's Community Hospital, Fermoy would benefit from their efforts. Endorsing this ambitious fundraiser, local councillor Frank O'Flynn, said he knew both men well and had every confidence they would represent themselves, their families, parish and country with great honour.
"They are very committed to this project and I anticipate that the people of Glanworth and beyond will rally behind them and make this fundraiser a resounding success," Frank said.
The marathon takes place on March 15th with a homecoming party scheduled for Fitzgibbbons' Bar on Saturday night, 21st March.
Sponsorship cards are now in circulation and further details can be had from Glaworth based members of St Patrick's Community Hospital Fundraising Association - Marian O'Callaghan (086-3828724) and Catherine Williams (086-2538631).
