Fundraising isn't an optional extra for schools and be they large or not so large, both national and secondary schools throughout The Avondhu catchment continue their efforts apace.

Those collecting money for good causes can opt for the novel or the tried and trusted and members of Ballyhooly National School Parents' Association went the sponsored walk route to boost their coffers.

The event took place on Sunday morning last with a fine mixed-age crowd turning up to show solidarity with the local national school.

Bringing large numbers of people on to public roads presents its own challenges, however, in fairness to organisers, the event was well stewarded and closely controlled throughout - members of An Garda Siochana also assisted and high visibility jackets were the order of the day.

The group lost no time in completing a walker-friendly loop of the village. On their return participants headed to the local community centre for the second phase of the fundraiser - a cake and bric-a-brac sale. Again, patrons were encouraged to part with cash to assist the cause.

The parents' association, in co-operation with the school, wish to thank everyone who helped make the walk and sale such a success, especially An Garda Siochana.
