A man in his early 30s was been killed after trying to clear away a fallen tree with a chainsaw during Hurricane Ophelia.
Michael Pyke, 31, was seriously injured after he went to cut up the tree, which had fallen on a road between the village of Ballylooby and Cahir in the Ballybrado area of Co Tipperary. He was fatally injured by one of the tree's branches and died at the scene.
The incident took place at Ballybrado, Cahir, Co Tipperary at around 12.30pm on Monday.
A member of the public came across the scene shortly after the incident happened and notified the emergency services, who encountered some difficulty because of the weather conditions at the time and the dangers posed by other trees in the area.
Michael's body was removed to South Tipperary General Hospital in Clonmel for post-mortem.
Michael, from Ardfinnan, lived on St Joseph’s Terrace in the village with his father Tony. His mother is deceased.
