EirGrid’s decision to abandon plans to build a 220km network of pylons from Cork to Kildare has been described as a ‘victory for people power’ this week.
Councillors at the October meeting of the Dungarvan/Lismore Municipal District wholeheartedly welcomed the decision by the semi-State company to scrap its ambitious plans.
The company said a reduced demand for power means it no longer needs to build a new overhead network or install underground cables to the cost of €643m.
