Keniry Back To Winning Ways

In a week that has been dominated by bad weather in the UK, one man was glad to come off the dreaded Racing Post’s cold list. Killeagh native Barry Keniry went to Hexham not expecting any fireworks, but came home with a double, his first winners in over three months. Riding Kealshore Again for George Moore in the 3 year old juvenile hurdle, Keniry had an easy win on this keen going type. Having to take up the running after the second flight, Kealshore Again jumped well and drew clear for an emphatic 23 length success. It’s not often you see a three year old win so easily this time of year.

There is a saying that you could wait all day for a bus and two will come along at once. Gymdoli trained by Rayson Dixon, who himself hadn’t had a winner for nearly two years, went off at huge odds of 125/1. Ridden again by Barry Keniry he was close up all the way around and having been passed after a mistake jumping the last, rallied up the run in for a deserved win. To say Rayson Dixon was over the moon was an understatement. A great day for all concerned.

It’s That Man Again

It’s hard to keep Kilworth flat jockey Martin Lane off these pages and I predict he will probably be written about every week here.

Back on Seemenomore for Michael Bell at Southwell, Lane was again seen to good effect. Slowly away from the stalls which seems a trait with this horse, Lane drove his mount close up onto the leaders heels and taking it up well over half a mile out, stayed on well for a cosy enough win. Lane’s winner was noted hanging all the way up the straight but jockey power and fitness in the saddle were very much the order of the day. This was Martin’s second win in less than a week on Seemenomore and his 188th winner in total.

Robin Steals It For Vaughan

Other locals doing well last week were Rockmills native Ed Vaughan who trained Robin Hoods Bay to win on the all weather at Wolverhampton on Friday under jockey Luke Morris. Ed has been training in the UK for many years now and this was his third win on the polytrack with this horse. Only a four year old, this fellow could go in again under similar conditions.

He holds another entry at Lingfield on the 28th of this month. Ed has some nice sorts under his care in Newmarket this season including Dance and Dance, Redvers and Legendary, all winners already in 2012.

The 1.01’er

Moving on to the four legged local. Corrin Hill, formerly trained by Trixie Barry in Fermoy, ran a good second at Haydock only beaten by a nose. Now in the care of Grand National winning trainer Donald McCain, this fellow looks a nailed on winner in the future. He now joins the famous 1.01 and beaten club after trading those odds in running. That by the way is 1/100 for mere mortals like you and me. Usually when a horse hits these odds in the run they win, but not this fellow.

Best Of The Rest

Mister Hyde, trained by Castletownroche native John Joe O’Neill, won a chase at Market Rasen under Tony McCoy.

Liscarroll native Richie McLernon was out of luck this week but rode a promising horse in Holywell into second in the Grade 3 fixed brush hurdle at Haydock on Saturday. Trained again by John Joe O’Neill, this horse won’t be long in winning. Looking not over big, he may need another year under his belt to be seen to good effect.

David O’Meara has decided to enter Blue Bajan in the Grade 1 Fighting Fifth Hurdle at Newcastle next week. This is a Champion Hurdle trail and he must think a lot of this fellow to enter him. Vibes from the yard says he possibly won’t run.
