Rosie Palmer, CEO Muintir na Tire, with Minister of State Niall Collins at the Ploughing Championships, where the 2024 Text Alert Rebate Scheme was launched.

The Text Alert Rebate Scheme, which continues to be administered by Muintir na Tíre, will allow for eligible groups to receive a rebate of up to €350 towards their 2024 operating costs.

The 2024 scheme was launched by Limerick County TD Niall Collins, Minister of State at the Department of Justice and Muintir Na Tíre, at the Ploughing Championships in Screggan, Co. Offaly last week. For the first time, groups can apply by completing their application through the new online portal at LINK or in the usual way, by completing a simple application form available at LINK or by contacting Muintir na Tíre on 062 51163 or rebates2024@muintir.ie. The closing date for receipt of completed applications is Friday, 30th January, 2026.

Announcing the extension of the highly successful scheme, Minister Collins said that The Community Text Alert ‘is an excellent example of partnership between An Garda Síochána, Muintir Na Tíre and the community’.

“My Department is pleased to continue to support community groups in the excellent work they do on crime prevention and community safety, through the provision of this rebates programme”.

In 1984 Muintir founded the Community Alert programme in response to an increase in rural crime. This programme operates to this day, supporting over 1,400 Community Alert groups, in partnership with An Garda Siochána. In 2013, Muintir launched the Community Text Alert programme, again in partnership with An Garda Siochána, and other community groups. Over 1,000 groups now use this programme, receiving alerts from an Garda Síochána effectively and efficiently.

Muintir has also launched the Cairde mobile app, designed to connect, secure and empower communities. Muintir is currently piloting a series of Farm Security Walks and Property Branding events, funded by the Department of Agriculture, which aim to empower farmers and their families to assess and address their on-farm security. A pilot Community Support Register is currently underway in counties Laois and Offaly, which aims to empower communities to look after vulnerable persons in their area.
