While the sun was beating down and many people were enjoying a refreshing ice cream on Friday last, May 16, two students from Fermoy and Mitchelstown were working their way through a 12 hour stationary row in Fermoy, which raised more than €4,000 for Diadhuit Suicide Prevention Ireland.

Matt O'Reilly and Jack Blackburne took on the mammoth task on an unexpectedly hot day and were completing their stationary row outside O'Brien's sandwich bar in Fermoy to the amazement of onlookers and commuters who were more than happy to support the worthy cause, when they saw what the school boys were achieving in the sweltering sunshine.

Over the course of the 12 hours, the two members of Fermoy Rowing Club took it in turns to row each hour, covering a total distance of 168km between 7am and 7pm.
