Despite being held in the shadow of the worst weather in half a century, this year's social held last Friday night in The Firgrove Hotel, Mitchelstown was a runaway success.

Two hundred and twenty happy people attended, some travelling from Dublin, West Cork and the Midlands. Everything went according to plan. There was a respite in the weather, the meal was perfect and the music supplied by the Checkers from Kilkenny was outstanding. A big thank you to Pat, John, Eileen and staff at the Firgrove Hotel for delivering such a professional presentation. Some people hardly left the floor all evening and the atmosphere was electric. There was a rooling display of pictures from all the different activities at the Park all year and of course the Nordic cruise and the big trip to New York. There was a big hush as T.O. announced the trips away from the Park for 2014.

The first of these will be a big trip up North over the June Bank Holiday weekend. Details of that trip including cost will be available shortly. It will however take in Giants Causeway, the Rope Bridge, the famous Glens of Antrim, Portrush, Portstuart, Ballycastle and much more. This will be followed after the mystery tour in July, by the once in a lifetime trip to China. There were gasps of delight at the news of yet another foreign trip in late October, for those who are not going to China. It is a fabulous trip to Portugal taking in Lisbon, Fatima, Porto and several other beautiful places. It is very keenly priced. The weather in Portugal at that time of year is just lovely and Portugal is one of the cheapest countries in Europe as wages are very low there. For 2015 T.O. also announced a major trip to Chicago taking place in early June next year. Please note that the proposed trip to Scotland in June has been cancelled for this year at least. It was working out far too expensive for a five day trip for a large group. Coaching and the hotels were at a crazy price. We may be able to do better next year.
