On and off the field, it's been a busy, eventful and ultimately very successful year for Ballylanders GAA. Their senior footballers delivered in spectacular fashion by accounting for St Patrick's to claim the 2014 senior county crown and while all this was going on, steady progress was being made upgrading the club's facilities.
The new complex, which includes new dressing rooms, toilets, referee's room and a dual purpose meeting room was completed on budget and within schedule which allowed for the hosting of last Sunday's county convention. A very well attended open day took place 24 hours earlier with hundreds of people dropping in to view this impressive set up.
Having had to make do with very modest facilities for so long, players now have access to top of the range facilities and the consensus last weekend was that the project has been well worth while and should be adequate for generations to come.
DELEGATES DESCEND ON BALLYLANDERS
County board delegates from throughout the Treaty County headed for Ballylanders last Sunday for the annual convention. Club representatives worked their way through the agenda in a business like manner and again the feedback concerning the new structure was universally positive.
County board chairman Oliver 'Ollie' Mann, said Ballylanders was a very well run club, its strategic plan starting to pay rich dividends.
"Members of Ballylanders GAA and their supporters are to be commended for their vision and determination that has resulted in construction of this magnificent complex. They've demonstrated in great foresight in putting in place such fine facilities. Regarding the convention, everything has been spot on from an organisational point of view and I compliment the club's officers for their efficiency and courtesy," Mr Mann said.
