The long-running Dun Eala housing estate impasse in Fermoy has taken a firm step towards resolution this week. A court decision on the issue has been finalised and An Bord Pleanála have given the decision that Cork County Council and Brompton Homes have 16 weeks to come together and implement the outstanding construction works.

Dun Eala residents have signed a petition asking Cork County Council that once work is completed, that they take the housing estate in charge. A spokesperson for Dun Eala said they want the two relevant bodies to comply with the court order and the timeline of 16 weeks.

This sets aside eight weeks for Cork County Council and Brompton Homes to ‘come together, sit down and arrange the final plan for clarity purposes’, and a subsequent eight weeks to ‘sort out the issue with the boundary wall, which was to put up railings adjacent to the wall and to put in weep holes’.

Residents say they do not want the 16-week deadline to go by with nothing having happened regarding the building works. Otherwise Cork County Council will be forced to issue Brompton Homes with a warning letter, and go through formal enforcement proceedings under the planning act, which the residents argue would ‘only delay things further’.
