The company behind the erection of a mobile phone antenna in Rathcormac village last year weren't breaking the law, the recent meeting of the Fermoy Electoral Area Committee was told.

Councillor Frank O'Flynn had raised the matter at a previous meeting, saying he'd been alerted to the incident by a local resident, concerned that it was put up without planning permission.

Senior council engineer, Brendan O'Gorman advised that the planning section of Cork County Council had investigated the matter and ruled that it was exempted planning and didn't require permission. The planning department is to ask telecommunications companies to inform them in future before erecting such equipment.
