Local groups sweep up at Tidy Towns 2021

Lismore Tidy Towns members in celebratory mood after winning the title of Tidiest Town in Waterford county in the 2021 SuperValu Tidy Towns competition - it was the town’s 19th Gold Medal.

The Avondhu area was extremely well-represented at the 2021 Tidy Towns Awards with the West Waterford heritage town of Lismore, along with the villages of Coolagown, Galbally and Castletownroche, representing the area as amongst the best-maintained in the country.

As well as receiving a Gold Medal Award in Category C (population 1,001 to 2,500) of the competition, Lismore was also announced the County Award winner for Waterford.

A number of initiatives were commended in their, report such as the litter roster that the community uses, the pollinator-friendly plants and the planting of community apple tree orchards.

“It was a pity not to be able to visit the attractive town of Lismore this year. But it appears to have been well cared for in the last year and a half during some very difficult times,” the 2021 report read.
