While the Camogie All-Stars Awards – due to take place on Friday – have been postponed, the nomination received by local sportswoman Laura Hayes is just ‘reward’ for her season’s work.
The Cork player was nominated for the All-Stars in the Half-Back Line, where she will face stiff competition from fellow nominees – Meighan Farrell (Kilkenny), Caitriona Cormican (Galway), Siobhan Gardiner (Galway), Laura Treacy (Cork), Emma Helebert (Galway) and Saoirse McCarthy (Cork). This is the St. Catherine’s player’s first All-Stars nomination.
Speaking with The Avondhu, Ms Hayes said she was ‘shocked’ when she heard the news.
“I was very surprised when I got nominated. I wasn’t expecting it at all. It does mean a lot to be nominated. We fell short in the All-Ireland this year so this is a nice way of all the hard work being rewarded,” she said.
