Cork Chamber have created history, becoming the first Irish chamber to win an award in the history of the World Chambers Competition, having received first place in the ‘Best Collaboration of Chambers, Business and Government’ category at the international competition.
Hosted by the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) and the World Chambers Federation, the 14th World Chambers Congress in Melbourne recognised the most forward-thinking and impactful initiatives by chambers across the world. Cork Chamber’s winning project, ‘Facilitating Sustainable & Competitive Growth through Local Green Deals,’ was developed in partnership with Cork City Council and has already received EU recognition for its innovative approach to sustainable urban and economic development.
The project stood out among an exceptional group of global finalists in its category, each with outstanding, large-scale initiatives of their own. The calibre of work and outstanding projects across the entire competition reflects the significance of this award on the global stage.
The award marks a historic milestone and reinforcing Ireland’s growing reputation as a modern, progressive and sustainable place to do business.
GLOBAL FRAMEWORK
The Local Green Deal model harnessed by Cork Chamber and Cork City Council unites business, government and civic partners through formally signed agreements that include measurable sustainability targets, clear timelines and shared accountability. These partnerships have already mobilised tens of millions of euros in green investments across sectors, from banks and universities to SMEs, proving that sustainability speaks every industry’s language.
Dr Alicia Mateos-Cárdenas, who presented Cork’s pitch at the Congress, said the award was ‘a reflection of what’s possible when purpose meets partnership’.
“Our model is not just Cork’s success, it’s a replicable framework for any city, anywhere. It proves that chambers are not only advocates of businesses, but can also be architects of sustainable and economic prosperity.”

The World Chambers Congress convened over 1,000 business and civic leaders from more than 100 countries. The World Chambers Competition is the only global awards programme of its kind, spotlighting initiatives that drive prosperity, innovation and impact through collaboration.’
