Cork County Council has sought further information from Colaiste an Chraoibhín on its planning application for a €5.5M three-story extension to the school.

The planning application for the 3,800 square metre extension was submitted in November. It would almost double the school's existing space.

Local councillor, Tadhg O'Donovan, a member of County Cork VEC, said this week that it was unfortunate that the request for additional information would delay the planning process by some weeks. On the other hand, he welcomed the fact that there had been no third party objections submitted to the council that would have further held up the school's plans.

He's confident that once the extra information that was sought, is supplied, the council can resume its consideration of the plan in a timely manner. He said the extensive pre-planning carried out by the school, which included liaising with the local engineer, will stand to them.

With planning permission secured the project can go to tender. That could take up to a year. After that it's expected to take between 14 and 18 months to build.
