Double for Harry and Avril at Riverstick/Kinsale

The god’s shone on the Riverstick/Kinsale open sports on June 20, as the weather cleared up for starting time where competition was keen throughout the evening with large numbers competing.

Carraig na bhFear AC were well represented at Riverstick/Kinsale open sports in the GAA Grounds, Riverstick on Thursday evening last having being previously postponed due to inclement weather. The god’s shone on this event as the weather cleared up for starting time where competition was keen throughout the evening with large numbers competing.

Harry Buckley opened the medal rush for Carraig na bhFear in the boys U9 where he captured a double in the 60 metre sprint and 300 metre race. In the girls U12 Orla Coffey ran a superb race in strong competition to take 1st place in the 600 metres while in the boys U13 600 metre race Seamus Ahern again ran exceptionally well to finish a close 2nd to Jake McCarthy of Youghal.

Martha Quain had an excellent outing when capturing the U13 girls 100 metres. Blathnaid Daly once again proved what an excellent middle distance runners she is when taking the 600 metre race with a bit to spare and finished runner up to Martha in the 100 metre sprint. Maebh Daly fresh from her Munster success in the javelin, moved up in age to compete in the U16 and captured an excellent 3rd prize. She also took 3rd position in the U14 100 metre sprint.

It was double glory for Avril Braham in the girls U15 100 and 200 metre sprints, while Ciaran Quain put in an excellent performance to finish 1st in the boys U16 100 metre sprint to be followed up with 3rd place in the 800 metres. Jack Hannon finished an excellent 2nd to Quain in the boys U16 100 metres and edged out his club mate to take 2nd in the 800 metres.

Carraig also captured medals in the relay when competing in the girls U13 relay Blathnaid Daly, Orla Coffey, Louise Buckley and Martha Quain finished an excellent 2nd, while in the boys equivalent, Seamus Ahern, Joseph Daly and twin brothers Jamie and Anthony Keniry also settled for second position after a great performance.

Well done to all who competed an excellently organised sports event at Riverstick on Thursday night last.

TRAINING UPDATES

Training has concluded for the track and field season and will resume on August 20th. However, all athletes competing at national level and those athletes aged 13 years and older will continue training as normal.
