Kilbehenny’s own soccer star Aoibheann Clancy proves herself a force to be reckoned with, as she is proudly nominated for the SSE Airtricity Women’s National Awards.

As well as securing a nomination from her peers, Aoibheann featured last Sunday with her club, Wexford Youths, who were crowned FAI Women’s Cup champions, beating Shelbourne 3-1 at Tallaght Stadium.

A ‘NICE SURPRISE’

Aoibheann spoke to The Avondhu from her hotel room in Dublin earlier this week, where she is in training camp for the national side’s upcoming World Cup qualifier against Slovakia, due to take place this evening.

“The nomination was a complete surprise. We were sent out a survey to vote, and a few days after that, the nominees were announced over social media. It was a nice surprise, to get the nomination like that, from your peers.”
