Ballyhooly and Araglin have to do it all over again

Ballyhooly 0-9 Araglin 0-9
This Ballyhooly / Araglin Co Junior B football quarter-final in Glanworth on Saturday night was an exciting affair all through and a draw was probably a fair result. We have not clashed now for a number of years as we are operating in a higher grade but on Saturday evening this was not obvious as they matched us in all facets of the game and the replay at 3.30 0n Sunday will will again be a 50 / 50 game.

Ballyhooly 0-9 Araglin 0-9

This Ballyhooly/Araglin county junior B football quarter-final in Glanworth on Saturday night was an exciting affair all through and a draw was probably a fair result.

We have not clashed now for a number of years as we are operating in a higher grade but on Saturday evening this was not obvious as they matched us in all facets of the game and the replay at 3.30 0n Sunday will will again be a 50 / 50 game.

Araglin opened well and had 3 points on the board before full forward Eamon Hanrahan, our best forward on the night, opened our account after 8 minutes. Ballyhooly, with Denis Kiely outstanding at midfield and with his midfield partner Darragh O’Reilly and defenders James Roche, Adrian and Kevin O’Driscoll also to the fore, upped their game at this stage and were probably marginally the better team for the rest of the half. Cathal O’Keeffe pointed in the 12th minute after a foul on Eamon Hanrahan and Araglin got point number 4 a minute later; Walter McKeown pointed in the 20th minute but almost immediately Araglin added a point to leave it 0-5 to 0-3.

Ballyhooly had more possession and were doing well at this stage but poor finishing and wrong options as well as good Araglin defending left us 2 points adrift 0-6 to 0-4 at the break. Our final point again came from full forward Eamon. Though the play was exciting in this half the number of stoppages for injuries [all necessary] ruined the continuity and there was 6 minutes of injury time.

Ballyhooly had a good opening to the 2nd half. Fintan Linehan pointed a free in the 36th minute after a foul on Eamon Hanrahan, but almost immediately Araglin got point no 7. Sean Linehan who had a great 2nd half pointed for Ballyhooly in the 7th minute and then in the 41th minute after a great save by Adrian O’Driscoll on the Ballyhooly goal goal line the ball was worked quickly downfield and Cathal O’Keeffe levelled the game at 0-7 all.

Araglin were now doing a lot better at midfield and both sides had their moments but defences were generally on top and this allied to poor shooting meant few scores on both sides in the final vital 15 minutes. Darragh O’Reilly put Ballyhooly ahead with a point in the 47th minute but again Araglin levelled almost immediately from a placed ball. We had a player dismissed at this stage but as often happens he was hardly missed as both teams pushed for victory. In the 56th minute both No 14’s Eamon Hanrahan and James Kearney got what were the final scores. The final minutes were played out in a welter of excitement and both teams had their chances but in the end I think everybody was happy to hear Simon Stokes final whistle bring a fine sporting game to an end.

WORK CONTINUES ON PLAYGROUND/MULTI-USE GAMES AREA

This project is now in full swing and the area is already taking shape after 2 weeks work by Walsh Construction.

During construction part of the walkway from the tennis club to the dressing-rooms will be closed but an alternative route has been marked out and signposted. I am sure everyone will understand the necessity of doing this for health, safety and logistic purposes.
