A woman from Darragh, near Glenroe, had a lucky escape on Wednesday last, as a tree came crashing down on her car during the raging storm, but split and only damaged the front and rear of the car, narrowly missing the driver's seat.

The woman, who did not wish to be named, was driving on a by road between Mitchelstown and Kilfinane and her car is very badly damaged and couldn't not be driven after the incident.

The driver managed to escape without any major injuries and only suffered bad bruising on her legs, from where the steering wheel had dropped from the impact.

Speaking to The Avondhu, the woman said that now, a week later, she is still nervous about driving and she said that the noise of the tree falling on the car was terrifying.

The accident happened around lunchtime on Wednesday last, when the winds were high and there were a number of trees falling in various areas, many blocking roads and entry ways.
