Historic first for Colm Jordan & Fermoy Handball Club

On Saturday last in Fermoy Community Youth Centre (home to Fermoy Handball Club) we met stars of the present and future.

One of the club's men of the moment is former world champion and recently crowned All-Ireland intermediate 'hard' ball singles champion, Colm Jordan. Club coach Mick Jordan made a presentation to his son acknowledging this fantastic achievement - Colm made history by being the first player from Cork to capture such a prestigious title.

During last Saturday morning's session, we also saw the boys and girls who will take over from Colm in time. Thanks to expert coaching and natural talent, all these players are improving and if they maintain the course they're on, success will inevitably come.

While Fermoy is supplying the bulk of these players, Fermoy Handball Club also has representatives from outlying villages. While they may not realise it, this group of youngsters are helping to maintain a sporting tradition in Fermoy that goes back over a hundred years.
