St Colman’s College collected their 12th Dean Ryan Cup at the weekend, moving them level in the U16½ hurling roll of honour with Thurles CBS and St Flannan’s College, and the victorious team received a hero’s welcome at the school on Monday afternoon in Fermoy.

After a tense drawn match two weeks previous, St Colman’s got the better of opponents Thurles CBS on a scoreline of 2-12 to 1-13 at the Gaelic Grounds in Limerick.

St Colman’s has always been synonymous with hurling though, like other Cork schools, they have faced a spell of barren year.

The last of St Colman’s nine Dr Harty Cup successes came in 2003, rounding off an historic three-in-a-row, while earlier this year the senior team came close to reaching the final for the first time in 13 years.

On current form, the Dr Harty Cup may soon be joining the Dean Ryan Cup in the school’s trophy cabinet.
