Positive progress has been the common theme for the local towns and villages across North Cork in this year’s SuperValu National TidyTowns competition.

The results for the 2016 competition were released on Monday and each of the North Cork communities involved, 10 including the return of Glanworth, increased their score from the previous year.

Coolagown recorded the highest score across North Cork and finished with an impressive 323 points, up four points from last year. Four other local communities across North Cork recorded scores of 300 or more; Castletownroche 313, Kilworth 309, Castlelyons 304 and Kildorrery 304.

Fermoy moved up four points to 287, while Mitchelstown increased five points to 282. Knockraha moved up to 277 points, while in just their second year after returning to the competition, Glenville gained seven more points to finish with 224 in 2016. Glanworth, on their return to the competition, received 261 points.
