Odhran Wiley from Mitchelstown is just a little over a year old, but the brave soldier is a true blessing for his parents having contracted viral meningitis when he was just four days old.

Like everyone who is about to become a parent, Charlene and George Wiley were really excited about welcoming their first child into the world and they were not prepared for the whirlwind journey that his birth took them on.

Odhran was born seven weeks premature and was diagnosed with viral meningitis when he was just a few days old.

“It was literally terrifying, we didn’t know if Odhran would live,” Charlene told The Avondhu, adding that they are indebted to everyone in Cork University Hospital who worked so hard to save Odhran, who is now a strong and healthy little boy.
