Now in its fifth year, the Cork County Mayor’s community awards are a public recognition of the tremendous work carried out by voluntary groups.

Three local groups were recognised at last week’s awards in County Hall, with Mitchelstown Community Council, Coolagown Tidy Towns and Glanworth Tidy Towns being nominated for the prestigious awards in the North Cork category.

Mitchelstown Community Council received the Mayor’s Community Award in recognition of the amazing work undertaken by the voluntary group in the refurbishment and development of Forrest Hall.

Speaking after collecting the award, Mitchelstown Community Council chairperson, Sean Finn said that the voluntary efforts by all the members of the council not only improves the lives of the individuals that surround them, but also contribute to the betterment of the community.
