Research by motoring solutions specialists, easytrip, Ireland’s only parking and tolling provider, has revealed that three quarters of Irish holidaymakers are looking to soak up some sunshine in faraway destinations and are choosing to travel abroad this summer with 68% planning on availing of long-term parking at the airport before departure.

Over half of those surveyed (52%) prefer to book a beach holiday with 18% choosing to take in a city break, followed closely behind by high adrenaline adventure breaks (16%).

Packing for holidays

Preparation is key when getting ready to jet off and when it comes to packing the necessities, the easytrip survey revealed that almost two thirds (61%) admit to over packing and bringing too much clothing.

One in ten admit to packing too little while the shrewd amongst us (7%) bring only the bare minimum on purpose, buying the rest of the items they might need whilst on holidays.

When asked about how long it takes to pack, males appear to take a shorter amount of time (45 minutes to one hour), whilst the majority of females dedicate more than twice as long with time spanning from two to four hours.

Top 5 forgotten items

While the majority of respondents admitted to over packing, many holidaymakers admitted to forgetting essential items.

The easytrip survey revealed that the top five are:

  2. Toothbrush
  3. Mobile phone charger
  4. Teas bags / book
  5. Driving license

Driving abroad

Almost one third (32%) of respondents plan to hire a car for the duration or part of the holiday. On return, over half of those surveyed looked forward to getting back behind the wheel of their own car.
