This Saturday (May 7) Friars’ Gate Theatre, Kilmallock plays host to Mend & Makedo Theatre Co’s production of ‘Corner Boys’ by John MacKenna.

The time is 1963. The place is an Irish village. For the two young women working in the local drapery shop the visit of John F Kennedy is all important but for the corner boys the concerns are different – women, money and darker doings fill their lives.

This powerful play exposes the light and dark of Irish life in the sixties – – the carnivals; the sodalities; the humour and the desperation.

The play is intended for an over 16s audience and contains strong language. Cast includes: Amy Kellett, Fiona Kelly, Eugene McCarthy, Tom McGrath and Blaise Reid.

On Saturday, 14th May at 8pm, The Kilkennys visit Friars’ Gate. The Kilkennys are at the very forefront of the new generation of folk groups taking Irish music to the world. The reputation of this youthful and energetic four-piece group continues to grow well beyond these shores.

This show will take the audience on a journey through the Irish folk and ballad tradition; it will feature many well-known ballads as well as new material that continues the Irish bardic tradition from centuries past.

From songs of love to songs of emigration, in ballads that reflect the ageless history of Ireland, The Kilkennys will provide an unforgettable, energy filled, toe tapping and hand clapping night of entertainment mingled with some of Ireland’s most prolific songs and ballads.
