The Avondhu Press Newspaper was established in 1978 and covers the areas of North East Cork, West Waterford, South Limerick and South Tipperary. This successful weekly - published Thursday - boasts a readership in excess of 39,000. The first edition was a modest 4 page edition which has since grown to an average of 80 pages.

The Ballyhooly convenience shop and filling station has been in Denis Hickey’s family for three generations, to be more exact, for no less than 80 years and last Saturday's closing saw a day filled with emotion, good memories, good chats and good wine.

SITE OF MEDIEVAL VILLAGE UNCOVERED IN KILWORTH

The townland of Ballyclough, Kilworth has recently been the site of a significant archeological discovery, with what used to be once a medieval village and castle, unearthed dating back to the 13th-14th century. Pottery fragments were also uncovered.

A man believed to be from the Mitchelstown area was arrested in Cheltenham on Tuesday night having been found in possession of counterfeit banknotes worth ˆ6,500.

PHARMACY SERVICES CONTINUE FOR THE MOMENT FOR MEDICAL CARD HOLDERS

The HSE and the IPU (Irish Pharmacy Union) have reached a stalemate over what many members of the IPU and other pharmacists refer to as a ‘breach of contract by the HSE’. As the case goes to court and an end to the situation is not close in sight, medical card holders can still breathe a sigh of relief as their services will not be affected at least in the near future.

N8 RATHCORMAC FERMOY BYPASS CONTROVERSY STILL UNDER INVESTIGATION BY E.C.

Kathy Sinnott, MEP, has received an update from the European Commission regarding the ongoing N8 Rathcormac/Fermoy bypass controversy. The NRA has been asked to investigate the N8 issue and was to revert to the European Commission with all the necessary information on February 15, 2008.
