Joan Sheehan of Kildorrery Karate club has won the SKDUN World Karate Championships for the 5th time last weekend. Kildorrery Karate club had six members of the 19 person Irish squad and managed to bring home a total of 1 gold and 4 bronze medals.

Our squad was Danny Sheahan, Joan Sheehan, Chloe Millar, John O’Donoghue, Eugene O’Donoghue and Sensei Martin Sheehan. Danny performed very well in the Veterans division and was unlucky not to place.

Chloe Millar competed fantasticly taking Bronze in the 18-20 years womens. John O’Donoghue took bronze in the 18-20 mens, in a very hotly contested catagory. Eugene O’Donoghue took bronze in the under 16s boys and was unlucky not to have gotten a place in the finals. Martin Sheehan took bronze in the grand champion event, Irelands first medal in the event.

Joan Sheehan won Gold for the 5th time in the women’s veterans event. All in all it was a mighty weekend for the club and the Irish squad as a whole who took home a total of 10 medals. Well done to all.
